What is Dim Sum?

Dim sum is a traditional Chinese meal made up of small plates of dumplings and other snack dishes - similar to Spanish Tapas.


I've carefully selected a number of classic Dim Sum dishes and crowd-pleasing favourites that I have been eating as a child with my family in Hong Kong. I would like to share just some of these with our customers at the Horse & Groom.


Our 11 Dim Sum menu for the evening:

  • Wonton Soup: A classic pork & prawn dumpling in Soup broth.

  • Char Sui Bao: Steam buns with a Char Sui (honey pork) filling

  • Peking Duck: Traditionally served at weddings, shredded duck with Cucumber & Spring Onions in a steamed flour wrap.

  • Sui Mai: Pork & Prawn dumplings in egg pastry classically steamed

  • Har Gaw: Steamed Prawn dumplings in a translucent glutenous rice pastry.

  • Turnip Cake: Off the beaten track Dim Sum, my mum makes the best ones. Pan fried & served with a chilli dip.

  • Wortip: Pan fried pork, chive & water chestnut dumplings served with a Ginger Soy.

  • Bean Curd Wraps: A filling of pork & bamboo shoots in a black bean sauce.

  • Sesame Prawn Toast: We're making this with a twist, using Mark's Sourdough Baguettes as our base.

  • Red Bean Pudding: A childhood hot dessert from Hong Kong.

  • Egg Tarts: A street snack, perfect to round off a meal.
